Fuerteventura Kite Festival 2019

Updated:

The program for the Fuerteventura Kite Festival is now available (see bottom of post) so you can plan when and where you can visit. The festival takes place over 4 days from 7th to 10th November.

It is a great event and one that, each year, I say “I’m not going to go this year” but then I do and I am never disappointed. Every year there are new and even better kites to see.

On 7th November it takes place from 10:00-17:00 on Playa de la Concha in El Cotillo. It is well worth a walk to the beach (and a drink or lunch at Torino’s of course) to see these colourful kites.

From 8th to 10th the kites move to Playa del Burro which is along the Corralejo dunes beach, south of the main dunes, where the road moves back towards the coast. You can’t miss them as they are visible from anywhere along the dunes road.

Fuerteventura Kite Festival 2019

This starts on 8th with an opening flight of the first kite at 10:30 and then flights of hundreds of kites during the day until 5pm (mostly all at once which is what makes it such an interesting and colourful event.) During the day there From 10:30 to 12:30 there are workshops for children too which have been organised with the local schools.

On 9th they start flying at 10am and carry on until 5pm. At 1pm there is a Kite Combat event where kites attempt to knock each other out of the sky and the last one flying is the winner. This is quite a popular pastime in some parts of the world I believe.

The last day is Sunday 10th November with flying all day between 10am and 5pm.

If you are here during this period then don’t miss it.

This was my video of the Kite Festival in 2017 so you can get a flavour of what it is like.

    El Cotillo Hotels

There are only three El Cotillo hotels as, fortunately, it has not developed into that kind of resort – so far anyway.
